The chronograph is a time-recording machine, and it needs something to start and stop the clock. They are light sensors that are in line with each other in the red aluminum Chrony box. The chronograph’s rotating bezel ring, with its own crown, advances the bezel with a crisp clicking sound that spells pure efficiency. The chronograph does not have many features that are available in Michael Hong’s chronograph that we reviewed last week. The application is also covered with branding images from Neosistec.
The chronograph part is equipped with six-teeth star wheel. It passes escapement frequency to star wheel through a 30-teeth gear which located above escapement wheel. The Chronograph is powered by the FM 7000 automatic movement. It also sports a date corrector push-piece at 9 o’clock that enables the wearer to set the date back or forward with ease. The chronograph’s digital readout registered velocities were all over the spectrum when we fired the 1911 across the screens!
The chronograph pushers are located on the left. The “EB” emblem at 6 symbolizes the relationship between the brands. The chronograph functions are direct and straightforward. Another undeniable asset of this movement is the fact that the intermediate wheel lever runs over an extremely wide radius and its travel is very limited. The chronograph seconds hand is white and the tip has been painted red, which makes it extremely easy to read, a nice touch. The constant seconds is located at 3 o’clock, the chronograph minute counter is at 9 and the chronograph hour counter is at 6.
The chronograph start/stop button is at 2 o’clock and the reset button is at 4 o’clock. The case lugs measure 20 mm across. The chronograph minutes are at the 9 o’clock while the small seconds are on 3 o’clock while the date balances the look at 6 o’clock. A stainless steel case with titanium carbide coating gives the watch a protective layer and a smooth look. The chronograph centrally mounted seconds hand is a sporty red and easy to see. Don’t forget the useful addition of the lume on the hour and minutes hands as well as for the hour indexes behind the numbered hour indicators.
The chronograph functions are so far separated button-wise from these three basic time functions, that there is no reason for optical signatures for them. The chronograph can also be kept running indefinitely with no loss of amplitude to the movement as it is driven directly off the movement’s escapement, making it truly the perfect engine for any sporting timepiece. Perhaps that power of the Nautilus is that its revision for its 30th anniversary has only reinforced its status as the ultimate sporting luxury timepiece.
