Omegawatch Company & History

The Omegawatch was the first watch to be worn on the moon. Neil Armstrong made that the case in 1969, and later by all Apollo crews. The Omega watch brand is one of most widely known brand you can rely on. The Omega watch is equipped with the manual-winding movement - Omega Caliber 1861, the movement that powered the initial Omega Speedmaster that traveled to the moon.

The Omega Watch Company was completely unaware of these activities and they did not know that one of their watches had been tested and selected by NASA as the official wristwatch of the American Space Program! The Omega watch company boasts to have created the only watch (Omega Speedmaster) that has visited another planet. This year they released a commemorative addition in honor the 40th year anniversary.

The Omega Watch Company has been plating their movements with this finish since the late 20’s (until recently when they switched to rhodium), and this particular style and color of finish makes their movements look very attractive. Traditionally, they use a fine grain machine finished “snail” pattern, or plain straight line graining, with small amounts of highly polished areas, usually anglaged edges, to offset the grain.

The Omega watch also contained a small detonator pin concealed as part of the watch, that Bond uses to place into the C4 explosives hidden underneath the diamonds. When Bond is about to be executed by Colonel Moon’s men, Bond twists the bevel of his watch to activate the explosives. The Omegawatch, the pattern that’s confirmed the recognition as good as interest for generations, continues to be the single of the some-more selected watches upon the market.

Louis Brandt was the creator of Omega watches in 1848. They began by making pocket watches and later progressed to fine, high quality vintage watches that Omega is famous for today. Louis Brandt assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. After Louis Brandt’s death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar took over control of the business. Louis created key-wound precision watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen during the winter months, and would then sell them throughout Europe during the warmer months. Following his death in 1879, his two sons abandoned the unsatisfactory assembly workshop system in favour of in-house manufacturing and total production control.
